Useful rope knots (Material for Training-Of-Trainers session)

February 6, 2014 - 11:35 pm

This is the digital handout for the students which took part at my training session

Useful rope knots

This 30min session was my assignment for the Training-of-Trainers course 2014 provided by ICTI.

The knots in this short list are some of the most useful ones for the daily life.
All of them can be performed if only one end of the rope in question is loose.

Bowline
Simple knot that forms a fixed loop at the open end of a rope.
It can be used to hook the rope onto a post, hook or similar.

Backhand hitch
The open end of the rope wraps around a pole and tightens to it.
It can be used to tie a rope to a handrail or beam.

Sheet bend
Used to tie two ropes together on their open ends. It can also be used if the ropes have different diameter.

Student project: Cache-manager for OFS

June 18, 2009 - 7:17 pm

Today I visited university again. Three students held a presentation about caching strategies for OFS.

In March Professor Trommler started this project and the students did very good research since then. The approaches are promising and partially close to my own ideas about improvements in OFS.

I’m very keen on the implementation which will start about end of July, after they have finished their exams.

OFS @ english Linux Magazine

January 14, 2009 - 8:07 am

As you probably have noticed there were an article about the OFS project in the January issue of the german Linux Magazin. Together with Carsten, Frank and Prof. Trommler I wrote this one.

The editors at Linux Magazine translated the text and now it has been published in the February issue of the english magazine as well.

Yesterday I bought a copy and I like it.
I haven’t read very much of the other articles yet, but the topics are very promising. It’s worth buying I think.

Welcome to my website

December 22, 2008 - 11:19 pm

Well, after creating websites for all the world and his brother I – finally – found the time to bring online my own one. There’s not so much to discover yet, but I will try hard to write in this blog from time to time.

So now I invite you to find out who I am and what I’m doing all day long. Especially have a look at the OFS project, an up-and-coming offline-filesystem for Linux. You are also encouraged to subscribe to my [http://www.jonmedia.net/en/blog/rss RSS feed].

Some words about content and language

I decided to start writing in english to reach a broader audience. But since I also plan to write about my bands and christian youth work, there will be some german posts in the future. – Well, I’m sure you will notice that. :)
